Song of the Week

Here in this Diary - Ataris

Here in this diary I write you visions of my summer
it was the best I ever had
there were choruses and sing alongs
and that unspoken feeling
of knowing that right now is all that matters

***

Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up
these are the best days of our lives
the only thing that matters is just following your heart
and eventually you'll finally get it right

Song of the Week

We'll be a dream- We the Kings ft. Demi Livato

And when the lights go off
We'll be safe and sound
We'll take control of the world
like it's all we have
to hold onto
and we'll be
a dream

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Last night my parents, Kurt and I went to see the Pioneer Day broadcast done by the Tabernacle Choir and it was absolutely amazing. The singing, the stories, the instruments and the Spirit really lived up to its expectations people set for them.
Throughout the broadcast, there were short clips of interviews and bits of history of the Choir. Ever since their very first broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word, they have opened with the song 'The Morning Breaks'. It is the longest national running broadcast in America's history.
All of the songs that they sang were incredible, and they all seemed to touch the heart. A Nigerian Tribal Hymn, 76 Trombones, and Amazing Grace were among the pieces sung. They are all so different, and yet this amazing choir can master all of them. I tip my hat to them. Good job, Mack Wilberg.

Song of the Week

The Black Parade- My Chemical Romance
(Ashlynne style? Not at all. But I'm digging it.)

Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me.
And other times I feel like I should go. Through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets.
When you're gone we want you all to know We'll Carry on,
We'll Carry on
Though your dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on
Carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart I cant contain it
The anthem wont explain it

Interior Design = :D

I absolutely L.O.V.E. interior design. If you stick me in Tai Pan Trading, IKEA, or an Antique Store, you won't get me out for at least an hour. For mine and my mom's birthday, we decided that we were going to get new bedspreads for our rooms. We chose to both get something black and white so that we could switch the colors around as we pleased. So a few days before my birthday, we went to IKEA and we picked out bedspreads.
I picked one that was white with big black flowers on it. The only color was the center of the flowers, which are red, navy blue, and yellow. She picked a plain black and white and gray comforter. BORING!!!
So I came home and put it on my bed and I liked it, but it was not working with the rest of my room. Everything else was light blue, orange, and green. It was NOT okay with me. So today, I went back to IKEA to get the finishing touches. I got some red and white pillows for my bed and white chair, and a red curtain to replace the orange one. I replaced my green and orange bulletin boards for a plain corkboard, and put red and white and black ribbons on it to color it up.
And of course, all the red came to pass because of the small red IKEA table I got during my epic kidnapping :)
So there is my rant for the day. Make it Minertastic!!!!

Facebook

The internet is one of the most incredible things to have been invented. Think about it- you can send someone a message in a millisecond that lives half way across the world, and see their face and hear the voice at the same time. It's amazing.
One of the things that have come from this incredible invention is Facebook, the most used Social Networking Site. You can see what is on your best friends mind, or what your long lost elementary school crush found on farmville, or wish your cousin in Washington a very happy birthday. It makes things convenient.
But there are some setbacks to facebook, and it is almost all the becuase of the users. Some people think that posting thier inner most feelings on facebook is appropriate, and beneficial to them. They could be complaining about thier parents, or the guy that they like ignoring them, or ranting about nothing at all. Simply saying that life sucks. So people will try and give them sympathy, and the whole world can see how loved they are.
The simple truth is that these things are not meant to be shared on facebook. Some people don't realize that once you post something, it is there forever. Sure, you can delete it from your profile. But it is still in people's newsfeeds, and it will float all over the internet until the end of time.
So be weary about what you post on facebook.
Just post it on your blog :)

June 15, 2010- 17th Birthday

I feel so loved today! I walk into the Sanchez home where I nanny, and the girls attack me, screaming happy birthday. We all made cupcakes together, and Heidi got me Zupas for lunch (she loves me :D). And THEN, Morgan, Alan and Kurt (the kidnappers) brought me a plate of chocolate chip cookies to my place of occupation :P. I am so spoiled. Because of this, I have made a vow to myself to always make those that I love feel special. Not only on thier birthdays, but every day. Whether it's with a card, or a smile, or a kidnapping at 5:45 in the morning to give them thier favorite breakfast. <3

Kidnapping!!!!

So today is my 'Birthday." We are pretending today is because I am nannying on Tuesday, which is my real birthday. I have all these plans for today, and I was really looking forward to sleeping in today.
But no.
I woke up to my best friend, Morgan Pratt, standing over me with a video camera. She told me that she was going to kidnap me, and to please come with her. I was slightly grumpy and tired, and we got to her car where she told me to put the brown paper bag on my head. At first I tried to refuse, but she was having none of that. So we drive and i have this stupid bag on my head, and she keeps driving in circles so that I don't know where we are going.
She finally pulls over and turns off the car. I start to take the bag off, but she tells me to keep it on. So then we start walking down this path, and it's REALLY cold and it's sprinkling a little. We finally stops walking, she takes off the bag and
WHAM!!!
I see a whole little campsite set up, with two very good looking boys standing there. Alan and Kurt always seem to come through :) there is a tarp set up so that we don't get wet, a small red table with a gift on it (Victoria Secret box- of boy), and two vases of wild flowers.
My friends are so awesome :)
Right about now, I realize how gross I must look. I didn't get to brush my hair OR teeth, and I am wearing these sweats and a big jacket, and no make up at all. But it was still awesome. Morgan kept recording. After I hugged them all, we all sat down around the little red table and Kurt starts to make crepes, which are one of my favorite things. Morgan made hot chocolate, which is my other favorite thing. I opened the gift (a shirt, not anything scandalous thank goodness).
So the point of this post is to do good things for the people you care about!!! Be spontaneous and fun and go out on a limb to make them happy. Because this seriously just made my day. Best birthday present ever!
Have a mienrtastic day everyone!

Song of the Week: June 6 - 12

Ain't no Mountain- Marvin Gaye

'Cause baby there
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe

Remember the day
I set you free
I told you you could always count on me darling
From that day on
I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
some way somehow

This is my mom and my theme song :)

IKEA Picture Scavengar Hunt

So last night (Friday) I went on a date with my friend Kurt and two other couples (Morgan and Alan, Jenessa and Colby). We went and ate dinner at IKEA (delicious), and then we went on a picture scavenger hunt. We all had a list of things we had to take pictures of at IKEA, or things we had to be doing in IKEA. It was the best date I have ever been on! Afterward we all sat in Alan's truck bed and then we went to Morgan's house, but back to IKEA. It was all spontanious and fantastic! If anyone wants me to post the list just let me know :) I guarantee it is an awesome date and that anyone who does it will have a blast!!

Song of the week: May 23 - 30

Everything - Michael Buble

And you play it coy, but it's kinda cute.
Ah, when you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don't pretend, that you don't know it's true.
Cause you can see it when I look at you.

;)

Song of the Week

May 16 - 22
The Call, Regina Spektor

It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
'Til it was a battle cry

I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye

Storybook Creator Creations

My mom's name is Kim Harkins, and she has been working for Creative Memories for 16 years. She started when we were living in California, where she was at the height of her business. You may have heard of her?
Well I have never been the girl that is going to sit down for 5 hours and decorate pages and get a cramp in my hand from journaling; that is never going to happen with me. But if that's your thing, hey! I won't judge you.
But a few years back, Creative Memories came out with a computer Program called Storybook Creator. When it came out, I was already kind of into computers. But since then, I have become computer savvy! I have become a sort of expert on Storybook Creator. I make everything from Recipe Cards to Invitations for parties to quote cards and anything else you can think of.
Some of my services on Storybook Creator are making invitations, creating recipe cards, flyers, programs for meetings or plays, and anything else you might need. If you would like my services, comment on this post or e-mail me at swtyARH@yahoo.com.

Song of the Week: May 9 - 15

The Only Exception- Paramore
"And I've always lived like this keeping a comfortable distance...and up until now I had sworn to myself that I'm content with loneliness."

--Great song! Paramore is a rock group, but this song is quiet and sweet, starting out with acoustic guitar and ending the same way, while the song builds up in the middle. I love this song!--

Hello, World!!!

This whole blogging thing is new to me, so I guess that I will just start by introducing myself. My name is Ashlynne Harkins, and I am 16 years old (17 in one month!). So this blog is going to be like a window into my mind. There will be posts of songs that I like, things that I make on Creative Memories' Storybook Creator Program, pictures that I have photoshoped that I like, and many other things that represent me and who I am. So I hope that whoever comes along this blog enjoys it!
